Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 23, 2026

HelloFamily helps families stay connected with older loved ones through one simple daily check-in. This policy explains, in plain language, what information HelloFamily collects, why it's collected, who can see it, and how you can delete it.

What we collect

  • Account information. Your name, email address, password, and timezone, created when you sign up or accept a family invite.
  • Phone number (optional). Only if you choose to add one, so a connected family member can call or message you directly from the app.
  • Family connections. A record of which accounts are connected to each other, created only when an invite link is accepted.
  • Daily check-in answers. The older adult's responses to the three daily reflection questions — how they're feeling, whether they feel physically okay, and whether they completed their normal activities.
  • Daily check-in status. A simple status for each day — Completed, May Need Support, or Missed — generated automatically from that day's check-in answers.
  • Notification preferences. Your chosen reminder time and which alerts you'd like to receive.
  • Push notification token. A device identifier used to deliver reminders and status alerts, provided by Apple's push notification service.

Why we collect it

  • Account information is used to create and secure your account, and to schedule your daily reminder at the correct local time.
  • Phone number is entirely optional and is only used to power the Call/Message buttons a connected family member sees — it is never required to use HelloFamily.
  • Family connections determine which accounts are allowed to see each other's check-in status.
  • Daily check-in answers are the core of the app — they let an older adult record how they're doing each day.
  • Daily check-in status is the only information shared with a connected family member, so they know their loved one is okay without ever seeing the underlying answers.
  • Notification preferences and push tokens are used solely to deliver the reminders and alerts you've asked to receive.

Who can access your data

HelloFamily is built around one core rule: a connected family member can never see an older adult's individual check-in answers — only that day's overall status.

  • Daily check-in answers are visible only to the older adult who submitted them. There is no feature, screen, or account type — including the connected family member — that can view them.
  • Daily check-in status is visible to the older adult and to the family member(s) they are connected with.
  • Profile information (name, timezone, and phone number if provided) is visible to you and to any account you are connected with.
  • We do not sell your information or share it with advertisers or other third parties.
  • Our database and authentication are hosted by a backend infrastructure provider, which stores data on our behalf and does not independently access or use it.
  • Push notifications are delivered through Apple's push notification service, which receives only a device token and the notification text — never your check-in answers.

How you can delete your data

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data — including your profile, check-in history, family connections, invites, and notification settings — at any time directly within the HelloFamily app. No need to contact anyone: deletion is self-service and, once confirmed, cannot be undone.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, so the app can show accurate check-in history and status. If you delete your account, your data is removed as described above.

Security

HelloFamily uses access controls that enforce the rules described above at the database level — not just in the app's interface — and invite links are never stored or transmitted in a way that reveals their plaintext value.

Not a medical or emergency service

HelloFamily is intended to support routine family check-ins. It is not a medical monitoring or emergency-response service, and it is not intended for use by children.
